My Dad–June 16, 1931-March 22, 2013

The world lost a great man today, a gutte neshuma–a mensch among mensches.

My Dad, Howard, was 81. June 16, 1931-March 22, 2013.

My sister was at his side when he passed. Mom and I arrived moments later.

He was an amazing husband, father, brother, son, grandfather, uncle and caretaker.

His last conscious act was to have the nurse call my mom’s facility yesterday to make sure she ate. Classic Howard to the end.

I aspire to be half the man he was.

He was the life of the party even when there was no party.

We will miss him immensely and are grateful he finally has the peace he craved and deserved. He suffering is over.

We will miss you, Dad. We respected your wishes and know you are watching us with a Dewar’s in your hand. Have a second.

Free at last. Free at Last. We are so glad you are free at last.

  1. Sorry to hear about your loss. Condolences to you and your mom.

  2. It doesn’t matter how prepared you are, you’re never prepared for the final act. Sending many blessings your way and hoping that you, your mother, and the remainder of the family, find comfort in your memories. Howard sounded like a very attentive husband to your mother – how delightful that he considered your mother’s comfort at that time of his journey.

  3. Dearest Friend:

I am so very, very sorry for the loss of your beloved dad – the world is a lesser place tonight for his absence. Our hope is that your loving memories of him will bring peace to your mind and light to your heart at this difficult time. To you, your mom, your sister and the whole family, may his memory always be a blessing – a gutte neshuma indeed to raise a son like you…..
